On October 15, the list of the “Top 50 Specialized Manufacturers of Construction Machinery in China for 2024” was unveiled in Changsha, with China Railway Construction Heavy Industry, Zhejiang Dingli, and Tongli Heavy Industry taking the top three spots.
According to industry standards, the construction machinery sector encompasses 18 major product categories. Companies that primarily focus on one or two categories are referred to as specialized manufacturers. Data indicates that over 80% of manufacturers in the global construction machinery industry operate within these specialized fields. China has witnessed a surge of specialized manufacturers in this sector, which are not only regarded as “specialized, precise, and new” enterprises but also stand as invisible champions on both national and global stages.
On the same day, the “Top 5 Global Tunnel Equipment Manufacturers for 2024” list was also released, featuring China Railway Construction Heavy Industry, Germany’s Herrenknecht, and Sweden’s Atlas Copco in the top three positions. Known as the “King of Construction Machinery,” tunnel boring machines are a significant focus for China Railway Construction Heavy Industry, which holds the distinction of being the first company in China to receive a top-level production qualification for full-face tunnel boring machines. After earning the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s award for being the champion product in this category from 2019 to 2021, they have maintained their championship status for 2022-2024 through rigorous industry and market evaluations.
In the list of the “Top 100 Global Construction Equipment Manufacturers,” 19 Chinese companies made the cut, 11 of which are specialized manufacturers. Notably, three large comprehensive manufacturers—XCMG, Sany Heavy Industry, and Zoomlion—ranked among the top ten global manufacturers. From a regional perspective, nine companies from Hunan province, including Sany Heavy Industry, Zoomlion, China Railway Construction Heavy Industry, and Sunward Intelligent Equipment, also made it into the top 100.
These statistics highlight not only the overall competitiveness of China’s construction machinery industry but also the strength of regional clusters, indicating a significant rise of the industry on the global stage. After over 20 years of development, Chinese construction machinery products have fully replaced imports. According to Sun Zhe, editor-in-chief of China Construction Machinery Magazine, the recent years have seen a deepening of overseas expansion for China’s construction machinery industry, with products widely recognized by international clients. Currently, overseas revenue accounts for nearly 50% of the industry’s total.
The “Top 50 Specialized Manufacturers of Construction Machinery in China for 2024” and the “Top 5 Global Tunnel Equipment Manufacturers for 2024” lists were jointly published by the organizing committee of the Global Top 50 Construction Equipment Manufacturers Summit, China Construction Machinery Magazine, and the Xixi AM Media Group.
