In a recent interview in Abuja, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike discussed the upcoming second edition of the Africa Military Games, scheduled for November in the capital. He assured Nigerians that the event would not only stimulate economic activity but also highlight the country’s progress in security enhancements.

Wike emphasized that attendees would leave with a fresh perspective on Nigeria, pointing out that many people form their opinions about the country without ever visiting. “This event will demonstrate that both Abuja and Nigeria are safe and ready to host international gatherings,” he stated.

The former governor of Rivers State also pledged comprehensive support from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to ensure the event’s success, free from any security concerns. “This is a significant international event, and it’s crucial that we avoid any embarrassment,” he stressed. “We’re collaborating closely with security agencies to ensure the smooth execution of the games, prioritizing security above all. We are fast-tracking all necessary measures to eliminate any potential threats. Nigeria must host this international competition without disruption.”

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, commended Wike for his substantial improvements to the security landscape in the FCT over the past year. He highlighted that the Africa Military Games, which will feature participants from 40 countries, provides an opportunity to showcase Abuja and Nigeria as safe destinations. “We want to present Nigeria positively to the world, extending beyond Africa to the entire globe. Many travelers may view Nigeria as a dangerous place, but the truth is that Nigeria is safer than many countries. Abuja is one of the safest places anyone could choose to live,” Musa pointed out.

He also expressed confidence in Wike’s leadership, believing it will lead to a successful and seamless event, aligning with the President’s renewed agenda to promote Nigeria on the global stage.
